Some years ago, I wrote an exam and got a little below 60%. Mehn, I was really proud of myself😃! I wanted to share my joy with a classmate who was with me, but the dude looked so sad I thought he must have failed terribly. I asked him his score anyway, only to be shocked to hear he got 70%😱. How can a person who got less than 60 feel more fulfilled than another who got 70?🤔🤷♂️
Happiness is not about abundance, neither is it a measure of what you have. So, what then is happiness?🤔
In my opinion, happiness is a state of mind that is predicated on expectations. Simply, if your expectations are met or surpassed, you will be happy. But if you fall short of your own expectations, no matter how high you fly, no matter how well you do, you will feel miserable. It’s that straightforward.
My advice? As you continue your journey, keep moderate expectations. This life is not a race. I repeat, this life is not a race. In the larger scheme of things, remember that you’re not competing against anybody. To be happy, you don’t need more of anything; you only need less expectations.
I’ll clarify a little more. If you start expecting less from life and less from other people in your life, you will find yourself pleasantly surprised more often. Every action, every achievement, whether great or small, will carry more meaning and satisfaction. Believe me, this life is not as hard as we make it seem. Cut yourself some slack.
No go dey do pas yaself.
Billions of people have come before you, and billions will still come after you’re long gone. Whatever you do in your lifetime, no matter how noble or notable, will most likely be forgotten in a thousand years’ time. What then is your gain?
Live immediately. Being rich, popular, beautiful, powerful is not only beyond your absolute control; it also doesn’t guarantee your joy. Thankfully, happiness isn’t so distant or dependent on some uncontrollable factors. You can have your best life now. Make that choice. Make it every day!💪
